β€œla couleur de l’eau”

β€œLa Couleur de L’eau” explores the nature of DNA and self-expression. This collection is very personal, as I emulate how my DNA has shaped the person I am today not only physically but mentally through fashion.

This idea started when my mother introduced me to the book, β€œThe Color of Water” by James Mcbride. The book describes the author’s challenges growing up in the 1960s and 70s as a mixed-race child of a White Jewish mother. The title of the book signifies his mother’s belief that God is β€œthe color of water”- neither black nor white. Having grown up mixed-race and adopted, I completely resonated with the author. This later sparked my interest in taking a DNA test to find out my family ancestry and help answer the question,

β€œWho am I?”

Throughout the slides you will see my creative process exploring the theme of self-idenity - combined with my other passion of horseback riding that has helped shaped me into the young designer that I am today.
